Canyon Lake clear calm waters.
The red cliffs surrounding Canyon Lake reflected in the calm waters on a sunny Winter afternoon. Canyon Lake is one of four reservoirs formed by the Mormon Flats Dam on the Salt River in the Tonto National Forest, a 3 million acre area in Arizona.
The lake is known for wonderful shorelines along the red rock cliffs, has a marina, and you can waterski, jet ski, or wind sail on the 950 acre waters. There is also fishing for bass, trout, and Arizona Game and Fish stock the lake monthly with rainbow trout. The lake is on the Apache Trail (AZ 88) of which President Theodore Roosevelt said, “the Apache Trail combines the grandeur of the Alps, the glory of the Rockies, the magnificence of the Grand Canyon, and then adds an indefinable something that none of the others have. To me, it is the most awe-inspiring and most sublimely beautiful.”
